Sydney Clarke, soprano
Sydney Clarke is a soprano who performs “all-guns blazing” (Opera Canada). She’s a graduate of the University of Manitoba’s Desautel Faculty of Music under the tutelage of Tracy Dahl (CM). She is also a graduate of the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music (GGS) in Toronto.
Most recently, Sydney performed the role of PHOEBE in Dry Cold Productions’ A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder. She has debuted the role of JILL BANFORD in the premiere of Roan Shankaruk’s opera The Fox in May 2021, has performed as HELENA in Opera NUOVA’s 2019 production of Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the role of MERCURY in Manitoba Underground Opera’s (MUO) production of James Rolfe’s Aeneas and Dido. Other roles include DONNA ANNA in MUO’s production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni, ELETTRA in MUO’s production of Idomeneo by Mozart, the role of FIRST LADY in Opera Nuova’s production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute and SOPRANO 1 in Opera Nuova’s production of Terrence McNally’s play Master Class. Sydney has performed as the soprano soloist for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s staged production of Carmina Burana, by Carl Orff with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Earl Stafford (CM).
Sydney is a winner of the 2020 Women’s Musical Club of Winnipeg’s McLellan Competition. She has also won first place in the 2020 Manitoba Registered Music Teacher’s Association Scholarship Competition.
Sydney currently holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Manitoba’s Desautel Faculty of Music and a Bachelor Degree of Music from Thompson Rivers University in association with GGS. She is currently based in Oshawa, Ontario, continuing to perform and teach voice.
